This initiative highlighted various exciting motorsport disciplines and the multiple entry points into a career in the industry, whether as a short-term passion or a professional pursuit.

Chris Sunderland, a Mechanical Engineering Lecturer at NSCG, expressed his delight at the turnout, stating, “The response to our Introduction to Motorsport Evening has been truly exceptional. The event demonstrated our passion and commitment to motorsport education and inclusion of the clubs and employers in our region.” The reach of the event extended to local car clubs, with one participant traveling from Manchester to attend.

The collaboration with Motorsport UK and the Wolverhampton & South Staffordshire Car Club allowed for a comprehensive exploration of opportunities within motorsport, catering to both amateur and professional interests. Sunderland noted the encouraging engagement during specialist sessions, emphasizing, “Our work here at NSCG and the success of this event is evidence that we can be a key gateway for the next generation of motorsport students to progress into the industry.”

The evening attracted over 120 attendees, who received insights from Helen Allen, Chair of the British Women Racing Drivers Club, who focused on the role of women in motorsport. Discussions covered various activities, including rallies, trials, and racing events, reflecting the diverse nature of the sport.

Following the presentations, a networking session in the college atrium invited attendees to interact with representatives from different disciplines. This provided an opportunity for guests to learn more about forthcoming events, membership options, and training pathways within the motorsport sector.

Elise Whyte, Club Development Coordinator at Motorsports UK, remarked on the enthusiastic participation of the students. “It was fantastic to see such a great turnout from the students who are interested in becoming more involved in Motorsport. Stafford College and their students were extremely welcoming to us and their enthusiasm for the sport shone through.” She reiterated that motorsport offers many avenues for involvement, such as competing and volunteering, highlighting its potential for skill development, networking, and career progression.

Paul Price from the Wolverhampton & South Staffordshire Car Club expressed gratitude to NSCG, noting, “A massive thanks to NSCG for hosting the Introduction to Motorsport evening. The number of students and parents that attended the evening exceeded our expectations, making it a very enjoyable and rewarding experience.” He added that the partnership aims to give students valuable insights into the world of motorsport and to offer pathways for participation in various capacities, including competitive roles and marshalling.

The clubs are excited about the prospect of engaging with students and parents at upcoming taster events throughout the year, further encouraging exploration of careers in the motorsport industry. Those interested in pursuing a future in this field are invited to explore the courses available at Stafford College.
