An event focused on motorsport education drew significant attention, with over 120 individuals attending the evening hosted by NSCG, Motorsports UK, and the Wolverhampton & South Staffordshire Car Club. This initiative aimed to illuminate various motorsport disciplines and the routes into the industry, whether for professional careers or personal enjoyment.
Chris Sunderland, a Mechanical Engineering Lecturer at NSCG, expressed enthusiasm about the turnout, stating, “The response to our Introduction to Motorsport Evening has been truly exceptional.” He highlighted the event’s role in fostering interest and inclusivity within the motorsport community. Notably, attendees included a participant who traveled from Manchester, underscoring the event’s regional appeal. Sunderland continued, “Our partnership with Motorsport UK and Wolverhampton & South Staffordshire Car Club allowed us to showcase the range of pathways into motorsport, from grassroots participation to professional roles,” reflecting on the positive engagement seen during specialist sessions.
Helen Allen, Chair of the British Women Racing Drivers Club, provided insights into women’s involvement in motorsport, drawing attention to efforts needed in promoting inclusivity. The evening also included discussions on various motorsport activities, such as rallies, trials, and racing.
Following the presentations, a networking segment unfolded in the College’s atrium, where attendees could explore upcoming events, membership opportunities, and training programs within the motorsport sector.
Elise Whyte, Club Development Coordinator at Motorsports UK, remarked, “It was fantastic to see such a great turn out from the students who are interested in becoming more involved in Motorsport.” She praised the welcoming atmosphere at Stafford College and emphasized the myriad ways individuals can engage with motorsport, from participating to volunteering. “Not only is motorsport fun, but it can also develop your skillset, offer networking opportunities, and improve your career prospects,” she noted.
Paul Price from the Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire Car Club praised the College for hosting the event, stating it surpassed expectations regarding attendance. He added, “We hope we’ve given students an insight into the world of motorsport and provided them with a pathway to competing, marshalling, or helping to run events in a controlled and regulated environment.” He expressed eagerness for upcoming taster events planned throughout the year.
