The event showcased various motorsport disciplines and highlighted diverse pathways to enter the industry, whether as a professional or a hobbyist.

Chris Sunderland, a Mechanical Engineering Lecturer at NSCG, expressed his satisfaction with the response, stating, “The response to our Introduction to Motorsport Evening has been truly exceptional. The event demonstrated our passion and commitment to motorsport education and inclusion of the clubs and employers in our region.” Sunderland revealed that participants came from across the region, including one individual who traveled from Manchester.

The collaboration with Motorsports UK and the Wolverhampton & South Staffordshire Car Club enabled the organization to illustrate the spectrum of paths into motorsport, ranging from grassroots participation to professional careers. He noted, “What was particularly encouraging was seeing the engagement during our specialist sessions, and this event sets some strong foundations for our future motorsport activities.”

The event featured a special focus on Women in Motorsport, led by Helen Allen, Chair of the British Women Racing Drivers Club. Attendees had the chance to participate in discussions about various racing formats, such as rallies and trials.

Following the presentations, a networking session took place in the college’s atrium, where representatives from different motorsport areas provided insights about upcoming events, membership options, and training opportunities.

Elise Whyte, Club Development Coordinator at Motorsports UK, praised the turnout and enthusiasm of the students. She remarked, “It was fantastic to see such a great turnout from the students who are interested in becoming more involved in motorsport. Stafford College and their students were extremely welcoming to us and their enthusiasm for the sport shone through.” She further emphasized the myriad ways to engage in motorsport, explaining that it not only offers fun but also develops valuable skills, enhances career opportunities, and fosters networking.

Paul Price from the Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire Car Club expressed gratitude to NSCG for hosting the evening, commenting, “The number of students and parents that attended the evening exceeded our expectations, making it a very enjoyable and rewarding experience.” He conveyed optimism that the event provided attendees with valuable insights into the motorsport world and potential pathways in competing, marshalling, or event organization.

Looking ahead, the club plans to engage with students and parents at several taster events throughout the year, encouraging those interested in exploring a career in the motor industry to consider the courses offered at Stafford College.
