DARTS, can you believe it!
In the Women’s World Matchplay in Blackpool, a major drama unfolds in the final between Fallon Sherrock and Lisa Ashton.
Sherrock (nickname: Queen of the Palace) appears to be the clear winner for much of the match. However, whenever she has a chance to secure the tournament victory, her nerves betray her.
In the end, Sherrock squanders a staggering eleven match darts!
Ashton remains calm and ultimately wins in the deciding leg – 6-5.

The winner speaking to Sky Sports UK: “I am so, so happy. I finally did it. My heart was racing, but I stayed focused because I thought I needed to seize my chances as Fallon was missing – and I did.”
Ashton can be doubly pleased with winning the World Matchplay. The triumph qualifies her for the Darts World Championship next December, along with a prize of £10,000 (around €11,400).
On the other hand, Sherrock will be very frustrated about losing the final. However, she had quite a bit of luck throughout the tournament. In both the quarter-finals and semi-finals, she had to survive match darts.
In the quarter-finals, Sherrock narrowly defeated Gemma Hayter 4-3, before beating the second-seeded Noa-Lynn van Leuven 5-4 in the semi-finals after a wild final leg. In a nerve-wracking finish, Sherrock missed five match darts, while van Leuven missed four. Both players found themselves on double one – in the end, it was Sherrock who hit the target and secured her place in the final.
Sherrock says: “To be honest, I’m quite proud of myself. I felt that I played better here than I have in the last few months. I feel that Lisa and I bring out the best in each other every time we play, and she played really well today.”
