Full Story

Chad Michael Murray, who first gained recognition in the early 2000s, has expressed gratitude for his enduring legacy as a teen heartthrob. The 43-year-old American actor, renowned for roles in popular shows such as *Gilmore Girls* and *Dawson’s Creek*, rose to prominence with the leading role in the youth drama *One Tree Hill*.

Murray’s appeal also extended to the big screen, notably featuring alongside Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis in the 2003 comedy *Freaky Friday*. The actor became a favorite among young audiences during this period. Now, he returns to reprise his role as Jake in the sequel, *Freakier Friday*, which debuted in UK cinemas on August 8.

Reflecting on his journey, Murray stated, “I’m very, very blessed, very fortunate and lucky to be a part of a lot of really great movies and great stories that have affected a generation.” According to him, the essence of acting lies in bringing joy to people’s lives.

Growing up in a single-parent household in Buffalo, New York, Murray made the move to Hollywood at the age of 18 to pursue acting. He noted, “I think I moved there in September 1999 and I was with Warner Brothers by January 2000.”

*Freakier Friday* revisits the original plot, which involved Tess Coleman (Curtis) and her daughter Anna (Lohan) experiencing a body swap after eating fortune cookies. The sequel sees Anna, now a mother herself, navigating her own daughter, Harper, portrayed by Julia Butters, and her soon-to-be stepdaughter, Lily Davies, played by Sophia Hammons, through a similarly chaotic body swap situation.

Murray described the challenge of re-integrating his character into the new storyline, saying, “It’s a house of cards; you move one piece and the whole thing crashes down.” He added that the creative team had to ensure that Jake’s character development over the past two decades was both authentic and entertaining.

Excited about the film’s potential impact, he quipped, “My joking sales pitch for this film has been, this movie will make you live longer as it reduces cortisol levels. If this is the type of content I do for the rest of my life as an actor, I’m done, I’m happy, I’m in.”

*Freakier Friday* is a continuation of the 2003 film, originally based on a 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers, which had also been adapted into a 1976 film featuring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris.
