Brooklyn Beckham, a 26-year-old aspiring chef, faced backlash after posting a video on Instagram that showcased his attempt at preparing a carbonara dish which included burnt bacon. The clip, viewed by his 16.1 million followers, drew sharp criticism from Italian chef Aldo Zilli, who stated: “Nowadays every celebrity is jumping on the cooking bandwagon. Burning guanciale [bacon lardons] would cause it to become bitter, hard and make the carbonara taste terrible – maybe he needs a masterclass from Aldo Zilli! Stop changing recipes!”
Zilli, 69, known for his expertise in Italian cuisine, reflected a sentiment shared by many viewers. One user remarked, “As an Italian.. no. That cheek is burnt,” highlighting the culinary misstep. In response, Brooklyn defended his cooking, arguing, “Guanciale has a lot of sugar in and that’s why it’s darker. I slow cooked it so it’s not burned.”
This incident marks yet another point of contention in Brooklyn’s culinary journey, as last year, he was also criticized for presenting a charred pizza while promoting his hot sauce, Cloud9. Additionally, he attracted negative reactions for using seawater in a pasta recipe, with observers calling the practice “unhygienic.” His now-cancelled YouTube series, “Cookin with Brooklyn,” reportedly incurred production costs of £74,000 per episode.
Brooklyn’s familial relationships appear strained as well; he recently renewed his vows to wife Nicola Peltz, 30, amid reports of a feud with his parents, David and Victoria Beckham. A source revealed, “This is a moment to celebrate their love and commitment, and to create a meaningful memory together.” However, the couple’s anniversary in April went unacknowledged by his parents on social media, a departure from their usual public displays of affection.
Compounding the family dynamics, Brooklyn was notably absent from David Beckham’s 50th birthday celebrations earlier this year. In a pointed contrast, he publicly celebrated his father-in-law, Nelson Peltz’s birthday, writing, “Happy birthday Nelson x We love you,” further illustrating the growing rift within the family.
Chef Aldo Zilli continues to make his mark in the culinary world, renowned for his Italian, vegetarian, and seafood specialties. He has authored more than ten books, including two autobiographies, and boasts plenty of television appearances. Zilli also holds a unique world record for flipping a pancake 117 times in one minute, showcasing his own culinary prowess.
