Sky Sports has secured a new three-year agreement with the Football League in the UK, extending its longstanding partnership with the NFL.
The announcement comes just ahead of the upcoming season, confirming that Sky Sports will continue to hold the primary broadcasting rights to NFL games in the UK. Sundays will remain the focal point for viewers, with Sky retaining the first pick for the early games that commence at 6 PM UK time. In addition, fans can expect to watch another match during this time, and by 9:25 PM, up to three matches will be aired, maintaining Sky’s status as the primary broadcaster.
The partnership has been enhanced further with Sky acquiring rights to all European games, which includes new fixtures taking place in Ireland and Spain. As a result, the number of available live games will increase by nearly 50%. Viewers will still have access to NFL RedZone, along with all Thursday Night, Sunday Night, and Monday Night Football broadcasts, as well as the Thanksgiving games, playoffs, and the Super Bowl.
Jonathan Licht, Chief Sports Officer for UK & Ireland, expressed pride in the extended collaboration with the NFL, highlighting the sport’s growing appeal in Britain. “We are proud to extend our partnership with the NFL beyond 30 years. The sport continues to thrive and captivate British audiences, as evidenced by the record viewership for Super Bowl LVII on Sky Sports. With more games than ever before, we look forward to offering our customers even greater value and delivering world-class coverage to fans,” he stated. The NFL season kicks off next week, with a Thursday night game set to initiate the action.
In other developments, Sky is launching a new sports format today that will include online voting for substitutes. RTL2 has acquired the successful format “Love Island,” while Sky Sport aims to integrate fitness and football training into the home experience. Additionally, Sky Sport 2 HD will feature a dedicated Manchester United day, and a compressed Premier League matchday will be showcased live this weekend on Sky.
