Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of former US President John F. Kennedy, has passed away at the age of 35. She had publicly shared a poignant reflection on her struggles related to her ongoing battle with acute myeloid leukemia, a form of blood cancer that she was diagnosed with in May 2024.
In a deeply affecting op-ed for The New Yorker, Schlossberg recounted the challenges of motherhood during her illness, revealing that she was unable to care for her newborn daughter due to concerns about infection post-transplant. “I didn’t ever really get to take care of my daughter—I couldn’t change her diaper or give her a bath or feed her,” she wrote. “I was gone for almost half of her first year of life. I don’t know who, really, she thinks I am, and whether she will feel or remember, when I am gone, that I am her mother.”
Schlossberg’s condition was only diagnosed after she gave birth to her second child, a daughter. At the time, she was in the hospital following the delivery and underwent further tests.
