Gino Borsoi, now the team manager of Pramac Racing, has identified Moto2 rider Izan Guevara as a potential successor to Valentino Rossi, praising his remarkable talent. In an interview with the Spanish newspaper ‘Marca,’ Borsoi expressed his admiration, stating, “He has brutal talent,” and drew parallels between Guevara and the iconic champion: “In Japan, I was asked who Guevara resembles most, and he reminds me very much of Valentino Rossi due to his incredible desire to race and win, as well as to experience the entire paddock atmosphere.”
Borsoi’s affection for Guevara is not surprising, given his own history as a competitor against Rossi in the 125cc class in 1997. Throughout his fifteen-year tenure in the motorcycle championship, he has worked with numerous top riders, including Nicky Hayden and Francesco Bagnaia, who collectively boast nine world titles. His long-standing mentorship of Guevara dates back to his time with the Aspar team, where he helped the young Spanish talent make his debut in the MotoGP circuit in 2021, culminating in a Moto3 world championship the following year.
After a brief separation when Borsoi moved to Pramac in 2023, the duo reunited for the 2025 season, with Guevara joining Tony Arbolino in the new Moto2 team. The 21-year-old enjoyed his best season in Moto2 yet, finishing eleventh in the championship with a total of 134 points after struggling in his initial years. His season highlights included a podium finish in Mandalika and a significant victory in the season finale amidst the championship showdown between Diogo Moreira and Manuel Gonzalez.
Following his first Moto2 win, Guevara had the opportunity to test the Yamaha YZR-M1 at the private test following the Valencia Grand Prix, marking his MotoGP debut. Borsoi observed Guevara’s performance closely, noting, “His test was very good. After a few laps, he was already at a level with the MotoGP riders. His ability to quickly understand what needs to be done on the bike is remarkable.”
Borsoi has not ruled out Guevara’s potential promotion to MotoGP, expressing hope that his skills will pave the way for a rise in 2027. With Guevara aiming for further excellence in Moto2 and the possibility of a world title run in 2026, pathways to MotoGP are clearly defined, especially with existing contracts in the Yamaha team expiring soon. However, to be seriously considered for a spot in the Pramac MotoGP team, Guevara will need to sustain his performance going forward.
