Plans have been put forward for a new speedway stadium in Swindon, with the proposal submitted by Swindon Motorsports Ltd to establish the Studley Grange Motorsports Hub on a former waste site adjacent to Royal Wootton Bassett, close to Junction 16 of the M4.

The proposal details plans for a 330-metre speedway arena, along with a karting circuit designed for both leisure and competitive activities, complemented by food and beverage facilities.

Terry Russell, the chairman of Swindon Motorsports and the Swindon Speedway, stated that this application comes after “many years of tireless effort and determination.” He encouraged local speedway enthusiasts to support the initiative. “Our proposals represent the best, and only, chance of securing a return of speedway in Swindon,” he asserted. Russell added, “Realistically, this is our last chance to provide the sport with a sustainable future in this region.”

Since the cessation of speedway operations at the Abbey Stadium in 2020, the Swindon Robins have not been able to compete. Should the planning application be sanctioned, the proposed site is anticipated to become the new home for the team and include amenities such as meeting spaces, business units, covered spectator areas, and an observation deck.

Moreover, the development includes plans for over 200 permanent parking spots, with additional capacity for more than 500 vehicles for larger events, as well as designated coach parking and drop-off zones.

Swindon Motorsports has projected that the overall initiative could generate up to 56 full-time positions. A verdict on the planning application is expected by the year’s end, with construction anticipated to commence in early 2026.
